Pilná, Barbora ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The term crisis of journalism is widely discussed nowadays. This paper examines whether journalism is in crisis, or whether it is a development caused by changes in the digital world. It also examines possible causes of this crisis and transformation in the digital world. One of the main causes of this is a perceived loss of credibility of the information given to the public. Therefore, there is a deeper interpretation of what trust and trustworthiness is and what can dis/trust cause in the society. In the context of the changes which journalism faces today, it describes the transformation of the role of the audience to active self-editor and outlines how the audience must orientate in the news itself. Open Data and their use in Czech Data Journalism
Krawiecová, Nela ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
The fundamental source of data journalism, which has established itself in the Czech media landscape in recent years, is the availability of usable data sets. However, academicians have so far neglected the topic of data openness and its importance in journalistic discourse. Simultaneously, data journalists are often the first to make data available to the public. An integral part of the thesis is mapping the historical development of data journalism, including the phenomenon of open government with a focus on Czech and European legislation and obtaining information with the help of the Freedom of Information Act. The aim of the thesis is, based on in-depth interviews with Czech data journalists, to identify the data sources which they frequently often use in their editorial routines, to evaluate the quality of these sources and to present the main limits that journalists encounter. In the conclusive part of the thesis the author transfers the focus to analysis of the availability of data sources provided by the Ministry of Health and the Institute of Health Information and Statistics during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 and outlines the process of acquisition, cleaning, analysis, and visualization of information by journalists.

The rapid development of technology in the last decades caused an extreme growth in the amount of available information. We live in an era, where information whirls around us almost all the time, thus it is becoming increasingly difficult to have a clear notion about the world and keep track of what is going on. Media realise this development and they are forced to react. One of such reactions is the emergence of a new trend in journalism called data journalism. "Data-driven journalism" is principally based on thorough and critical analysis of various amounts and types of data, and its goal is to reveal new insights. Insights about data which might be key for complex understanding of social phenomena in the 21st century. This paper presents data journalism as a unique field of journalistic work, it defines data journalism and describes some of the processes that lead to creating its output. The practical part of the paper presents its own data journalism project, which attempts for an original analysis and visualisation of the Czech Trade Inspection open data sources.
